Andy Walker
President/ Owner
Andy Walker began his funeral director-embalmer career at Walker Funeral Home in Chapel hill, North Carolina. In 1970's he began working with his father, Johnnie Walker, and partner Goodwin Byrd in the funeral home and furniture store businesses. He later purchased the partner's interest in the funeral home, and began building the Walker Funeral Home, which serves eastern North Carolina.
He attended Chowan College and completed his education in Texas at the Dallas Institute-Gupton Jones College of Mortuary Science as a 1969 graduate. There he received the Dean's Award and was a member of Pi Sigma Eta Fraternity.
Andy served on the North Carolina Funeral Directors Association Board of Directors from 1975 to 1980 and was elected as president of the association in 1981.
Andy lives in Windsor, North Carolina where he is active in many civic organizations. Andy is married to the former Tammie Gaye Ginn from West Virginia. He has five children; Drew (1967-1975), Reagan, Morgan(1978-2018), Brooks and Max. He is a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church and has served on the vestry of his church. Andy Enjoys golfing, landscaping and yard work. He also enjoys riding his Harley.

Greg is a native of Beaufort County, and was also downtown Washington merchant for over 25 years, he is a member of the Episcopal Church, the Historic Foundation, and other organizations. Greg has a love for antiques, interior design, and historic homes. Greg and his spouse, with four spoiled Yorkies reside in Washington, when not at their beach gettaway.

Beckie Eagle joined our staff May 27, 2026. Originally from the mountains of Virginia, Beckie has called North Carolina home for over 12 years. She and her husband have recently relocated from Manteo to Merry Hill.
Beckie brings a diverse professional background, including many years of administrative support in the healthcare and insurance fields. She has also spent more than two decades in the fitness industry, where she built lasting connections with clients and colleagues.
When not working, Beckie enjoys gardening, antiquing, repurposing furniture and tending to her honey bees and chickens. She is most proud of her roles as a wife, mother, Nana and dog mom.

Kelly and Steve have been married for 30 years, they have two boys Mathew & Colby Gurganus. Steve and Kelly planted the church called Walking In Faith Together Ministry in 2020 where Steve serves as the pastor. Kelly is the Church secretary, involved in Women's Ministry and the Worship Team Leader.
Kelly enjoys spending her time with her family, friends, pets and helping others in time of need and providing comfort to families

Charlie greets everyone looking for love and she enjoys lounging around, running in the yard, playing with her little sister Bella and most of all enjoys getting treats.
In 2024 Charlie went missing. Tammie and Andy never gave up hope she would be found and three months later thanks to the prayers and the community's help Charlie was found and brought home safe. Tammie and Andy would like to thank everyone for looking out and their prayers during that time and they are so blessed to have her back.

He and his wife, Lynn live in Merry Hill. they have two children, a son, Greg and a daughters, Michelle Evans York.
Charles is retired from Weyerhaeuser Paper Company. He is a member of the Masonic lodge in Windsor, the Merry Hill-Midway Fire Department and Capeharts Baptist Church.

He started White Oak Medical Transport Service in 2004 after retiring from R.J. Reynolds.
He is a member of Askewville Baptist Church and he enjoys fishing, hunting and spending time with his family.

He enjoys playing piano and guitar, doing woodwork and painting. He has a heart for people and enjoys serving others.

James Warren Sawyer, 77 of 303 Winsette Circle, died Sunday, November 9, 2008 at Washington County Hospital. Warren was born in Washington County on August 23, 1931 to the late William Monroe and Lillian Hassell Sawyer. He was predeceased by his sister, Martha Louise Smith, and his brother-in-law Alfonza Cox.
A lifelong resident of Washington County, he served as Magistrate for the Second Judicial District, serving the counties of Washington, Martin, Hyde, Tyrell and Beaufort from 1968 until his retirement. He was a retail merchant and associate of Horner Funeral Home and later Walker Funeral Homes, assisting the families of Washington county for 39 years. He was a member of Holly Neck Church of Christ, and attended First Christian Church and most recently Hope FWB Church.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian Cox Whitley Sawyer of the home; one son, William F. "Nookie" Whitley, and wife, Brenda of Plymouth; on sister, Minnie Mae Comstock of Plymouth; one sister-in-law, Viola Allen of Williamston; one brother-in-law, Leroy Cox of Virginia Beach, VA; two grandchildren, Butch Whitley and wife, Karen of Plymouth, and Tracy Windley, and husband, Jonathan of Searcy, AR; four great grandchildren, Taylor and Caleb Whitley of Plymouth and Jake and Tucker Windley of Searcy, AR.
Elbert R. Bryant

Elbert Ray Bryant, 68, passed away suddenly Sunday, December 5, 2004 at his home.
Mr. Bryant retired from Georgia- Pacific after 32 years of service. after retirement, he started his own logger safety consulting business and was employed with Walker Funeral Homes. Mr. Bryant rendered a lifetime of community services. He was currently serving as a board member of Askewville Assembly of God and Askewville Town Commissioner. he was a former Bertie County Commissioner, former Mayor and Police Chief of Askewville. He was a charter member of the Askewville Elementary school PTA and Bertie County Rescue Squad, Unit 2. He formerly served as District Governor of District 31- J of the Loins Club, past president of the NE Lions Association and board member of the NC Eye and Human Tissue Bank. His last contribution was the gift of sight as he was a eye donor.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Martha Farmer Bryant, formerly of Robersonville; daughters: Cynthia Bryant Harrell and husband Howard of Salisbury, MD, Martha Bryant Lane of Rocky Mount, Roberta Bryant Cummings and Husband Paul of Tobaccoville, and Gloria Bryant of the home. Grandchildren Vann Harrell of Monroe, Christopher Harrison of Williamston, Carla and Dave Peace of Salisbury, MD and Gregory Harrison of Bear Grass; great grandchildren, David Peace Jr. and Sarah Harrison; brother, Johnny Bryant of Williamston; sisters, Geraldine Todd of Askewville and Ann Taylor of Fort White, Fl. He was predeceased in death by his parents, Carlyle and Sarah Mizelle Bryant and brother Julian Bryant.

William Edward "Ed" Shackelford 70, of Cherry Street, died Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at Vidant Memorial Hospital. He was born in Green County on August 18, 1947 to the late Jesse and Julia Stroud Shackelford. Ed was a loving husband and grandfather and was a funeral attendant with Walker Funeral Homes.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Keel Shackelford of the Home; daughter, Rhonda S. Holmes and husband Mike of Bethel; grandchildren; Ashley Whitfield, Hope Taylor, Matthew Holmes, Brooke Holmes; great grandchildren, Connor Taylor, Lauren Whitfield, Jay Carr, Easton Taylor; sisters, Eunice Crawford of Mayo Cross Roads, Edith Skinner of Farmville and Inez Beamon of Ormondsville.
John C. Davis

John Carter Davis, 87, a resident of Williamston and a more recent resident of Wilmington, died October 6, 2022, at Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center, after a brief illness.
John was born on April 27, 1935, in Durham County, and was raised by Emma Winstead and James Enoch Smith, in Washington. John attended Beaufort County Schools and was a 1953 graduate of Washington High School. He later served in the US Navy during the Korean War and served on the Icebreaker USS Atka AGB-3. On March 21, 1957, he married the love of his life, the former Marie Wynne of Williamston. John worked for Weyerhaeuser of New Bern, retiring in 2002 as a Lab Technician with 42 years of service. John and Marie lived in Vanceboro and later in Trent Woods for many years.
After his retirement he and Marie relocated to her hometown of Williamston, where he became an active member and deacon of Memorial Baptist Church. He was a member of the American Legion, the Martin County Arts Council, the Roanoke Country Club; he was a past member of the Williamston Fire Dept. and Rescue Squad, and the New Bern Golf and Country Club. John was a lover of life, an avid golfer and loved to shag. John worked with Walker Funeral Homes for a number of years as a funeral service assistant and greeter, where he was known for welcoming everyone, especially the ladies with a big hug. John was preceded in death, in addition to his parents and wife, by two sons, John Carter Davis, Jr. in 1979 and Michael Neil Davis in 1991.
Survivors include his daughter, Emma Davis “Beth” Baker and husband, Robert of Murphy; grandson, Dustin Davis of Wilmington; great granddaughter, Anzley Kemmerer of Wilmington; and loyal companion, Riley of Williamston.

Buddy joined Walker Funeral Home in 2007. He serves as funeral home mascot and greeter. In his spare time he enjoys napping, riding in the car and chewing on things! Buddy resides in Windsor, NC. Buddy was born on April 21, 2007 and died March 31, 2014.

"Bird" retired after 32 years of service as a telecommunicator with NC Highway Patrol. He then began his service with Walker Funeral Home as a funeral assistant until his death.
