Date line:  Merry Hill, NC

On May 18th, 2022 at 9am, William Robert 'Bob' Johnson, of Merry Hill, passed away in Edenton, NC surrounded by his family. Born on February 6th, 1949 to Tom and Dorothy Johnson, he was 73 years old.  He was preceded in death by both his mother and father, as well as his mother and father-in-law Dr. Robert Alden Davis, Sr. and Sarah Elizabeth 'Lib' Davis, whom he loved dearly.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Jo Johnson; sons Brandon and Brian Johnson, daughter-in-law Kim Johnson, granddaughters, Katherine and Charlotte Johnson; sisters, Marion Cale, Peggy Cobb and Dianne Davis; brothers-in-law Dr. Robert Alden Davis, Jr., (ret.) Col. Brian Davis, and George Cobb; sisters-in-law Kelly and Petra Davis, nieces and nephews Taylor Faulkner, Hunter Davis, Mallory Davis, Lynn Cale, Hope Cobb, Rob Davis, Jeff Davis, Chris Cale, Brent Cobb, and Grayson Faulkner, and a large and loving extended family.

Bob, or Bobby as many knew him, was born and raised in Windsor, NC.  He married his high-school sweetheart, Carolyn Jo Johnson on July 14th, 1973. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, where he served on the flagship of the 6th fleet, the USS Albany CG-10, from October 16th, 1969 to August 28th, 1973 as a Petty Officer 3rd Class.  Upon receiving an honorable discharge, he attended and graduated from East Carolina University. He went on to spend almost 30 years in the pharmaceutical industry, retiring as a Key Account Manager in 2006 after a very successful career.  Having spent more than 20 years away from eastern NC, Bob and Jo realized a lifelong dream of returning to Bertie County in 2001 when they moved to Blackrock Farm in Merry Hill, NC.

During retirement and all the way up to his passing, Bob was an avid photographer, a fisherman, a collector of all things military, a loving husband and family man. Anyone who knew Bob even for a moment quickly realized that this was a man that got things done no matter what, if a problem came up or someone needed help he always stepped up to the plate. There is nothing he would not do for his family, friends or community, and he spent much of his time helping others, with needs big or small.  Above all, he was devoted to his wife, children and grandchildren, and whether it was helping to move home from hundreds of miles away or making it to a birthday party, he always went the extra mile to be there.
