William "Billy" Jordan Smithwick, 77, of Winwood Drive, passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at Vidant Medical Center.  He was born in Windsor, December 16, 1943 to the late Alfred Jordan and Edith Dunning Smithwick and predeceased by his wife, Linda Castelloe Smithwick.  Billy attended Chowan and ECU universities.  He was a member of the Windsor Fire Department for over 50 years and served as the fire chief for 27 years.  He served the Town of Windsor and Bertie County in many capacities, several being Emergency Manager Coordinator, Search and Rescue Team, Hazmat Coordinator, and Fire Training Officer for Martin Community College. Billy was in charge of the Eco-Tourism for Destination Windsor and was instrumental in having the Tree Houses on the Cashie River built as well as being a proud resident of the Town of Windsor.

Memorial services with fire department honors will be held Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Edgewood Cemetery.  Rev. Bonnie Smith and Rev. Royce Williams will officiate.  Following the service, a reception will be held at the Frisbee Golf Park near the Tree Houses in Windsor,

Survivors include children: Michelle Castelloe-Abraham and husband, Michael of Beford, VA; Stacy Castelloe of Kinston, NC; sisters, Betty "Bett-Dee" S. Marden and husband Dale of Raleigh, NC, Ann S. Totty and husband Emmitt of Chester, VA; grandchildren, Alexandra Rivera Taicher and Sebastian Abraham.
