Mrs. Wanda Dean Gurganus Saunders, age 70, of the Spring Green community passed away late Wednesday night September 23, 2026, at ECU Health Medical Center in Washington with her loving family by her side.

Wanda was born on September 19, 1956, in Williamston to the late Jesse Daniel Gurganus, Sr. and Murldean White Gurganus. At the age of 12, Wanda accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized at Everetts Baptist Church. She graduated from Robersonville High School in 1975, later received her associate’s degree in cosmetology. Wanda married the love of her life on June 3, 1989, James Kenneth Saunders. Together they shared many years filled with love, faith, family and lots of cherished memories.

Wanda was a devoted Christian and member of the Lighthouse Pentecostal Holiness Church. Her faith remained an important part of her life and was a guiding light throughout her years. She found joy in the simple things that made life special. Wanda loved her family and getting together for all of the “Laughter”, singing, watching M.A.S.H., westerns, crocheting, embroidery, cooking and decorating cakes and she worked for Blue Ridge Shoe Company for ten years, and later worked for Service Pro. for sixteen years before retiring.

Wanda will be remembered for her strong faith, loving heart, and devotion to her family. She leaves a legacy of love, laughter, faith and precious memories that will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Wanda is preceded in death by her parents: Jesse and Murldean Gurganus, her husband James Kenneth Saunders Jr. and beloved granddaughter: Roselyn Harrell. She is survived by her daughter, Amanda Saunders Harrell (Jonathan) of Williamston; son, James Robert Saunders of Williamston, one brother, Jesse Gurganus Jr. (Sonya) of Williamston, two sisters: Linda Gurganus Roberson (Jim) of Williamston, Patricia James (Will) of Sioux City, Iowa; two grandchildren: Kenneth Gardner, Noah Harrell and many nieces, nephews, great nephews and great nieces.

Though she will be deeply missed, Wanda’s family finds comfort in knowing that she is now at peace with her Lord and Savior. Her faith, love, and memories will continue to live on through the family and friends she leaves behind.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday September 29, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Walker Funeral Home chapel with pastors: Rick Manning, Jim Roberson, and Chris Watkins officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at Walker Funeral Home in Williamston.
