Obituary

Dateline:  Colerain, NC

Virginia Collier Bryant Hoggard, born December 14, 1945, in North Hampton County, North Carolina, died at home on November 6, 2026, after a long illness, with her loving family by her side. Her passing closed a life rooted in faith, family, and the everyday joys that made a home warm and a family closed.

Virginia loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and was a member of Askewville Bethel Assemble of God. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother, and her proudest accomplishment was her family. Those who knew her will remember a woman whose love was steady and generous, and whose presence brought comfort to the people she loved most. She shared more than 62 years of devoted marriage with her husband, J.T. Hoggard. Together they enjoyed horses and fishing, building a life marked by companionship and enduring love. Virginia was also a great fan of Christmas, a joy that seemed especially fitting for a Christmas baby, and she delighted in summer as well, finding beauty in its butterflies. Her family will also remember her love of going out to eat, a pleasure she passed down to all of her daughters.

Throughout her life, Virginia worked faithfully in many roles. She served as a teacher’s assistant, worked as a seamstress, and was the Secretary and Treasure of J.T. Hoggard Logging, Inc. and J.T. Hoggard Equipment, Inc. In each role, she gave her time and effort with care, helping support both her family and the work that shaped their lives.

She is survived by her husband, J.T Hoggard of the home; Cheryl Hoggard of Colerain, Pamela Michelle Johnson of Colerain, and Leslie Hill of Aulander; her grandchildren, Cydney Damo, Ethan Hill, Tanner Hill, and Sianna Johnson; and her great-grandchildren, Everly Damo, Woodsen Damo, Nova Garland, Nikolas Garland, Myla Mae Hill, and Baby Virginia Damo (expected in May 2027). The family she cherished so deeply stands as living reflection of the love she gave so freely.

Virginia was preceded in death by her father, William Ruffin Bryant; her mother, Ethel Collier Bryant; her sisters, Doris Eason, Elsie Spivey, and Alice Faye Smith; and her brothers, William Clyde Bryant and Edward Earl Bryant. Their memories remained part of the story of her life, and now she rests among them.

A visitation will be held on November 8, 2026, from 6:00 P.M. until 7:30 P.M. at Walker Funeral Home- Windsor, 236 US 17 Bypass, Windsor, NC 27983. Funeral service will be held on November 9, 2026, at 11:00 A.M., also at Walker Funeral Home-Windsor with the Pastor R.O. Denton, Jr. and Pastor Marvin Brisson, Jr. officiating. The burial will follow at the family cemetery in Colerain on Hickory Ridge.

Virginia Collier Bryant Hoggard will be remembered for her faithful heart, her devotion to her family, and the simple, enduring happiness she found in being with those she loved. Her life was a blessing, and her memory will be treasured always.
