Ms. Vestie Louise Brown Rawls a resident of Robersonville, died Thursday, May 9, 2024 at Bridges Of The Hendricks Creek, in Tarboro.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 13, 2024 at Martin Memorial Gardens, with Pastor Chris Watkins officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service at the grave.
Ms. Vestie was born to Ella Gray Whitley Brown and John Gray Brown on April 17, 1937 in Pitt County. She attended Pitt County Schools, and later married Sam Henry Rawls, Sr. who preceded her in death in 2021. Ms. Vestie was a bookkeeper for Sam's Service Center, and was a member of Bethany Pentecostal Holiness Church, where she served in the Women's Ministry and the Choir. She was also a loving mother, grandmother, and a very giving person who loved watching and feeding birds.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her siblings: Vera Stalls, Ella Gray Bland, David Brown, Stewart Brown, and Mary Brown. Survivors include: one daughter, Debra Whitehurst (Tim) of Stokes, and one son, Sam H. Rawls, Jr. (Lydia) of Robersonville. Other survivors include four grandchildren: John T. Whitehurst, Jr. (Kelly), James M. Whitehurst (Leigh Ann), Jamie L. Rawls (T.J.), Marsha Rawls Mobley (David), and ten great-grandchildren also survive her.
