Thomas Daniel Charles "Tommy" of Windsor, North Carolina, passed away on February 8, 2021 at the age of 74. Tommy, a veteran, loving husband, father, and grandfather went to be with the Lord while at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, North Carolina.
Tommy was born on May 23, 1946 to the late Beverly and William Charles of Union, North Carolina. He graduated from Ahoskie High School before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in 1966. He was initially stationed in Bangkok, Thailand at Udorn AFB, where he obtained a Vietnam Service Medal- Bronze Silver Star, and a Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He returned to the U.S. and concluded his assignment serving as a Sergeant in the Chaplains Services at Andrews AFB in Maryland. His professions were often service oriented. He recently celebrated 27 years with Commercial Ready Mix Products, where he served as a sales manager for the State of NC.
He was a member of Siloam Baptist Church for 43 years, where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He deepened his commitment to Christ following his attendance at a Promise Keepers Fellowship event years ago. He believed in fellowship and was passionate about studying scripture. Tommy was dedicated to serving the Lord, devoted to his family, and enjoyed having both by his side in trips to the Appalachian Mountains.
Tommy is survived by his wife of 43 years, Diane; two sons, Colin (wife Azusa) and Preston (wife April); four grandchildren, Camden, Elliot, Asher and Matthew; as well as two younger brothers, William "Billy" Charles and Richard "Dickie" Charles.
Walker Funeral Home will be providing services at the graveside on Coburn Rd., Friday, February 12, 2021 at 2:00 PM with Military Honors. Rev. Ben Bunch will officiate. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, services are limited to immediate family members and close friends. Masks and social distancing are required.
