Mrs. Shirley Belangia Johnson, a resident of Askewville, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 30, 2023 at ECU Health- Pitt Medical Center.

Shirley was born on December 3, 1948 to Annie Mae Johnson Belangia  and Howard Lee Belangia. She was a graduate of Great Bridge High School in Chesapeake, VA and on June 7, 1968 married the love of her life, Gilbert Anthony "Tony" Johnson who survives.

She worked for 33 years with the Bertie County Department of Social Services before her retirement.  Shirley was a member of Askewville Baptist Church and had many talents which included: crocheting, sewing, quilting, playing games, hunting and fishing. She loved her family and doing for others.

Mrs. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, and one sister, Barbara Belangia Bracy in 2020. Survivors in addition to her husband include two sisters, Kathy Belangia Jones (John) of Sunbury, NC, and  Martha Belangia Thomas (Jackie - deceased) of Windsor; one brother, Herman Howard Belangia (Kathy) of Elizabeth City and numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at Edgewood Cemetery with the Reverend Zach Hicks and Pastor JR Thomas officiating. The family will receive friends from the home.
