Obituary

Shannon Reed Bowen passed away at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center peacefully and surrounded by family on Tuesday, October 29, at age 47.

Shannon is survived by her loving husband, Jody Bowen; her daughter, Hazel Bowen; her parents; Bob and Lynn Reed; her sister, Heather Haynes; her brothers; Robert and Nelson Reed; and many other close family members who will miss Shannon immensely. Shannon is predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Jessie Tucker, and her paternal grandparents, Lester and Katherine Langley.

Shannon was born in Windsor, NC on September 19, 1977 to Bob and Lynn Reed. Shannon went on to graduate from Gaffney High School in SC and continued her education at both NC State and UNC Chapel Hill where she graduated in 2002 with her Bachelors of Science in Nursing. Shannon went on to marry her high school sweetheart, Jody Bowen on September 20, 2008 and they welcomed their daughter, Hazel Bowen, into the world on January 30, 2014. Hazel was one of the many joys of Shannon's life.

Shannon was a devoted wife and mother, a loving sister, a compassionate nurse, a loyal friend and so much more. Shannon valued and cherished spending time with her family. She loved Carolina Beach, red nail polish, creating art, and showing up for others. Shannon was the kind of person that could leave an impact on any and everyone she met. Her smile, laugh, warmth, and light will never be forgotten.

Shannon was a survivor of both Wilms' Tumor and Breast Cancer and was currently battling both Liver Cancer and Multiple Sclerosis. Shannon fought a difficult battle and never gave up. She was a fighter and never lost or wavered in her faith. Her family rests, now knowing that she is with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and is no longer experiencing any pain or suffering. Shannon will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her memory will never be forgotten and her legacy will be carried on by those who loved her most.

A visitation for friends and family to lovingly remember Shannon and share fond memories will be held on Friday, November 1st, at 803 Winwood Drive in Windsor, NC from 4pm-7pm. A funeral service is scheduled for 10 am on Saturday, November 2nd at Cashie Baptist Church with a reception to follow at 803 Winwood Drive.

The family requests that any memorial contributions be made to Hope Heals (https://hopeheals.kindful.com/) in lieu of flowers. Hope Heals is a nonprofit organization that gave her so much peace and purpose.   She volunteered at the Hope Heals Camp in the summer of 2023. She loved being part of a program that creates spiritual and social spaces of belonging and belovedness for families affected by disabilities to experience the hope of Christ in the context of inter-ability communities.
