Sallie Miller Cowand, 99, of NC 45 North, died Sunday October 27, 2019 at Acccordius Health at Creekside Care in Ahoskie. She was born in Bertie County July 25, 1920 to the late Norman Joseph and Sarah Gertrude Hughes Miller and was predeceased by her husband, Raymond Earl Cowand; sisters, Betty Joe Freeman 'Sister', Nancy Miller Bazemore, Joyce M. McNair and a brother, Harlee Peyton Miller. Sallie was a faithful member of Riverside Baptist Church and the WMU. She loved to embroider and was a master quilter.  She made quilts for her children and and all of her grandchildren as well  as many quilts for cousins and friends.

She worked at Ahoskie manufacturer and retired from Blue Bell Wrangler.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday October 30, 2019 at 1:30 PM at Riverside Baptist Church. Rev. Gene Martin and Rev. Al Jarrell will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Survivors include her daughter, Ruby Cowand Sanders and husband, Frank of Troy, NC; son, Joseph Wayne Cowand and wife Laura of Merry Hill, NC; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Tuesday October 29 ^th from 7-8:30 PM at Walker Funeral Home in Windsor. Memorial gifts may be made to Riverside Baptist Church, 1206 NC 45 North, Merry Hill, NC 27957.
