Ruth Smith Whitehurst, 85 of Windsor passed away at ECU Beaufort Hospital, Thursday, June 12, 2025. Ruth was born in Bertie County, on April 10, 1940 to the late Edgar Rudolph and Thelma Pritchard Smith. Ruth married John Edward Whitehurst the love of her life on May 7, 1960 and had been together 65 years. Ruth enjoyed genealogy, crossword puzzles, and most of all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of Windsor United Methodist Church and was a homemaker and a retired bookkeeper.

Ruth is survived in addition to her husband by two sons: Edward Rudolph Whitehurst ( Susan) of Windsor, and John Benjamin Whitehurst ( Lora) of Youngsville: grandchildren, Colby, Brittany, Heather, Berkeley: great grandchildren, Rhett, Madeline, Eason, Eliza, Wrenley and Lucy

A graveside service will be held at Edgewood Cemetery, Wednesday, June 18, 2025 at 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service.
