Ruby J. White, a devoted servant of the Lord and a pillar of the Askewville community, passed away peacefully at Three Rivers Health and Rehabilitation Center on March 5, 2026. Born in Bertie County on December 16, 1928, she was the daughter of the late George P. and Melissa W. Jernigan.

Ruby's life was a testament to her faith. A woman of warmth and generosity, she found great joy in her garden, cultivating vegetables, fruit and vibrant flowers specifically to share with others. Her kitchen was the heart of her home; nothing made her happier than a full table surrounded by family and friends, where laughter and love flowed as freely as the meals she prepared.

She was preceded in death by her son, Alton Clay; her brothers, Starkey and Carlie Jernigan; and her sisters, Pauline Roberson, Nettie White, Annie Mae Hill and Edna Jernigan.

Her legacy of love continues through her daughters, Ellen Askew and Brenda Hoggard (Henderson) of Askewville and her sister, Vergie Mizelle of Askewville. She was the cherished grandmother of Janet Winstead (Steve), Greg Hoggard (Judi), Stephanie Stewart (Kevin) and Joseph Hoggard (Marianne). She also leaves behind eight great-grandchildren and one great great-granddaughter

The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at Walker Funeral Home in Windsor from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A graveside service will be held at Edgewood Cemetery on Sunday, March 8, 2026 at 2:00 PM with Reverends Randy Pierce, Kevin Stewart and Webb Hoggard officiating. In the event of inclement weather, the service will be moved to the Walker Funeral Home- Chapel in Windsor.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Askewville Bethel Assembly of God Building Fund, a cause dear to Ruby's heart.
