Roland Douglas "Doug" Thames, 77, of Greens Cross Road, passed away Friday, May 12, 2023, at ECU Chowan Hospital in Edenton after many years of declining health. He was born in Prince Georges County , MD, August 26, 1945, where he met and married his wife of 33 years, Carol Simmons Thames. Roland was a truck driver and later was the caretaker of Hope Plantation for many years.

Survivors besides his wife include, a stepdaughter, Barbara Tripp of Aulander, sisters-in law, Barbara S. Pope of Tarboro, and Sheilah S. Shingleton of Walstonburg.

A memorial service will be held, Monday, May 15, 2023, at 11:00 AM at the Walker Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service.
