Rodney Fred Thomas, 68 of Askewville N. Railroad St., died Friday, June 17, 2022 at ECU Health Medical Center.

Rodney was born on December 23, 1953 in Bertie County to the late Henry and Rosebud White Thomas. He had retired from Sears as a service technician with 37 years of service. Rodney was a member of Askewville Baptist Church and served for 32 years with the Askewville Fire Dept. and Bertie Rescue Squad Unit 2. He loved to hunt and loved baseball and watching his boys play. He was known to be able to fix anything. Rodney loved his grandchildren and his family. He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Thomas.

Survivors include his wife, Deborah White Thomas of the home; sons, Marcus Thomas (Rosanna) of Merry Hill and Lance Thomas (Kasey) of Askewville; sisters, Dolores Hughson of Trap and Charlotte Thomas of Washington; grandchildren, Henry and Haywood Thomas.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 20, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Askewville Baptist Church with Rev. Zack Hicks officiating. Burial will follow in Edgewood Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the home.
