Riley "Moose" A. Thompson, 81, of Cooper Hill Road, died Friday, May 15, 2020 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. He was born in Bertie County, March 28, 1939 to the late William Luther and Annie Ruth Smithwick Thompson and predeceased by his brother, Kenneth Thompson and five half-brothers, Braxton, Lewis, Manly, Elwyn and Billy Thompson. Riley was a member of Lawrence Baptist Church. He was a lifelong farmer and served in the National Guard. He was a board member (20 + years) and former president of Farm Credit. As an avid golfer, he was a member and former president of Cashie Golf and Country Club. He also was the owner of Car Quest locations in Windsor and Williamston.

A graveside funeral service will be held Monday, May 18, 2020 at 11:00 AM in Edgewood Cemetery. Rev. J. N. Baggett and Rev. Scott Bauer will officiate.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Carolyn Tadlock Thompson of the home; daughter, Judy Thompson Hoggard and husband, Steve; son Andy L. Thompson and wife Angela all of Windsor; sister, Jean Hinds of Charleston, SC: grandchildren, Taylor Thompson, Riley and Noah Hoggard; sister-in law Martha Thompson and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Sunday, May 17 ^th at Walker Funeral Home from 6-7:30 PM. The family request everyone to please practice social distancing and avoid a lengthy stay at the visitation and following the graveside service. Memorial gifts may be made to the Lawrence Baptist Church, 1043 Cooper Hill Road, Windsor, NC 27983.
