Our beloved Preston Winston Watson Sr, 91 passed away peacefully at home on January 25, 2025, after a long and fulfilling life.
Preston was born on August 3, 1933, in Hyde County NC to the late Romulus and Lessie Dunbar Watson.
He was married to the love of his life, Joyce Cox, for sixty-five years until her passing in 2018.
Preston was loved and respected by many. He was known for being a hard worker and for his calm, steady and humble presence. He retired from Weyerhaeuser Corporation after forty-three years of service as a boiler room operator. He feared God, loved reading the bible and was a member of Plymouth Church of Christ. Preston's passion was nature; he loved anything outdoors: gardening, planting and grafting fruit and nut trees, growing grapes, hunting, fishing, cutting down trees and splitting wood. He blessed family and friends alike with the bounty from his labors.
He will be remembered and greatly missed by many.
Survivors include his four children: Fay Peyton and husband Steve, Preston Watson Jr and wife Gwyn, Terry Peele and husband George all of Plymouth, NC and Marlene Hardison and husband Wilson of Winston Salem, NC; eight grandchildren: Michelle McCombs, Trevor Spruill, Jenny Clark, Joshua Hardison, Marty Thompson, Amber Peele, David Peele, Nicole Specht; and fourteen great grandchildren: Rachel and Lauren McCombs, Jayce Peele, Sebastian, James, Christopher and Leo Reiman, Alex and Christina Clark, Charlotte Hardison and Adalyn and Griffin Specht, Elizabeth and James Spruill and many special nieces and nephews; one sister, Jackie Meyer and two sisters in laws: Ruth Watson and Myra Watson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Cox Watson; three brothers: Romulus Jr., Elvin and Gilbert Watson; three sisters: Lucille Adams, Neva Pearl Gage and Sophia Cox; one grandson: Andy Thompson and granddaughter-in-law, Nicole Hardison.
