Osbourne McDonald "Donnie" Highsmith, Sr. 87, of Wakelon Road, died Sunday December 30, 2018 at his home. He was born in Pitt County September 5, 1931 to the late William Barry and Stella Adams Highsmith.  Donnie was a retired state trooper with the NC Highway Patrol.  He was a member and Deacon of Ross Baptist Church and a former Mason.  Donnie was an Army Veteran of the  Korean War.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday January 2, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Ross Baptist Church. Dr. Jeffery Russell will officiate.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Cobb Highsmith of the home; daughter, Donna H. Mizelle and husband Dean; son Don Highsmith, Jr.; grandchildren, Sawyer and Summer Mizelle all of Colerain; sisters, Betty Lou Deans of Greenville, Faye Rogerson of La Plata, MD; brother, Billy Highsmith of Winterville.

The family will receive friends Tuesday January 1, 2019 from 6-8 PM at Walker Funeral Home, Windsor and from the home at other times. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1305 Navaho Drive, Suite 101, Raleigh NC  27609 or to the Samantha Ross Hoggard Scholarship Fund, 951 Bull Hill Road, Windsor, NC 27983.
