Mr. Odis Ward Whitaker 91, passed away peacefully at his home on October 1, 2025, with his family by his side.

"Big O"  was born on July 26,1934 to Carthene Ingalls Whitaker and Earl Whitaker in Williamston. He was married to Delois Weaver Whitaker for many years until her passing. Mr. Odis was the owner of Whitaker Logging Company until his retirement. He enjoyed playing blue grass music, racing, and sports cars, and collecting classic cars. Mr. Odis was a member of The Tarheel Ramblers.

In addition to his parents, and wife, he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Kelly Coburn in 2022, and one grandson Christopher Howell in 2025, and his brother, Leonard Whitaker.

Mr. Odis is survived by two daughters: Sherry Whitaker Bowen (Walley) of Williamston, and Susan Whitaker Woolard (Tony) of Williamston; his companion, Susan McLaurin of Williamston; eight grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Friday October 3, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Walker Funeral Home, Williamston and other times at the home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 4, at 2:00 PM at the Walker Funeral Home Chapel in Williamston with Robbie Parnell officiating, and Shack Humphrey providing the music. Burial will follow at Martin Memorial Gardens with Military Honors. Gentry Hassell, Carter Howell, Josh Keel, Jackson Mobley , Andy Woolard, Randy Woolard will serve as pallbearers.
