Nettie Jernigan White, age 101, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2025 at ECU Health Bertie Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Nettie was born in Bertie County on April 18, 1924 to George and Melissa Jernigan and attended Mars Hill School where she graduated with honors and lettered in basketball where she played guard for her high school team. Nettie was a faithful member of Askewville Baptist Church, sharing her love for the Lord by serving on VBS teams, the dinner on the ground committee and in the nursery for decades. Nettie was incredibly talented and creative which could be seen in her sewing, quilting, Swedish embroidery and crocheting projects. She also loved her garden and could be found there most days. She will also be remembered for her delicious cooking and the doors of her kitchen that were always open to anyone who stopped by for a visit. She loved being a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother to her family.
Nettie was preceded in death by her husband, Warren White, and her son, Allen Gail White, as well as her two brothers, Starkey Jernigan and Carlie Jernigan and three of her sisters, Paline Roundtree, Annie Mae Hill, and Edna Jernigan.
Nettie is survived by a son, Bennie White (Judy) of Askewville, and daughters Frances White Perry (Billy) of Askewville and Shirley White Powell (Bud) of Edenton, and her two sisters Ruby White of Askewville and Vergie Mizelle also from Askewville; grandchildren, Michael Perry, Eric White, Holly White, Mandy Klingenberg, Hoskins Powell, Harrison Powell; great grandchildren, Blythe, Henley, Kaela, Brianna, Ryan, Hannah, Luke, Grady and Faye and great-great grandchildren Wade, Walker, Wrenleigh and Everleigh.
A funeral service will be held at Askewville Baptist Church on Wednesday, December 31, 2025 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Zach Hicks officiating. Pallbearers include Michael Perry, Eric White, Hoskins Powell, Harrison Powell, Chris Klingenberg, Ryan Klingenberg, and honorary pallbearers Christopher "Peter" Johnson and Chris Forehand. A burial will follow at Edgewood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends in the Family Life Center of Askewville Baptist Church one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Askewville Baptist Church at 110 E. Askewville Road, Windsor, NC 27983.
