Milton Ray Basnight, 71, of Askewville, NC passed away on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at The Brian Center in Windsor, NC surrounded by his family. Born in Ahoskie, NC on May 1, 1947 to the late Isaac Milton Basnight and Margie Ray Perry Basnight, he was the husband of Judith Annette White Basnight for 50 years. Mr. Basnight attended Wilson Tech where he earned a degree in heating/air conditioning and drafting. He served his country honorably in the United States Army with a tour in Vietnam and was a retired building engineer for Carolina Telephone/Sprint/Embarq with 38 years of service. Mr. Basnight was a member of the Askewville Baptist Church and the Tarboro Lions' Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and snow skiing.

Mr. Basnight was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Alvin Carol Basnight and a brother-in-law Ronnie Keith White. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Gregory Keith Basnight of Greenville, NC; a brother, J. C. Basnight and wife, Jill, of Fayetteville NC; a sister-in-law, Glenda Basnight, of Colerain, NC, a sister-in-law, Sue White of Winston-Salem, NC.; a mother-in-law, Harriett White, of Askewville, NC and three nieces, Heather Henson, of Stuttgart, Germany, Holly White, of Elizabeth City, NC, and Hunter Coleman, of Fayetteville, NC.

The family will receive friends at 1:00 pm. with a funeral service following at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Askewville Baptist Church, the Rev. Zach Hicks officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Edgewood Cemetery.
