Melvin Lee McCandless, 80, of East Islands Road, died July 21, 2024, at his home with his loving family around him. Melvin was born October 21, 1943, in Richmond, VA to the late Hilma Bailey.  Mr. McCandless served in the US army and worked as an electrician at Weyerhaeuser Co. in Plymouth, NC.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and farming when he was not working.

The funeral service will be Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Walker Funeral Home Chapel-Williamston with Dale Redman officiating and Vicky Redman singing.  Burial will follow at Martin Memorial Gardens with Military Honors.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Walker Funeral Home and other times from the home.

Survivors include his wife, Janice Pate McCandless of the home; daughter, Sonya McCandless (James Eure) of Williamston; son, Jason McCandless of Arlington, VA; and sister Barbara Jellison of Maine.
