Mary Twiddy Sallenger, age 75, of Windsor, NC passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at ECU Health Bertie Hospital in Windsor, NC.  She was born in Chowan County, NC at the military hospital on April 28, 1948, daughter of the late Benjamin Frank Twiddy and Annie Mae Davenport Twiddy.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, William "Billy" George Sallenger, her daughter, Robin Dru Sallenger, and 11 siblings.

Visitation services will be held at Lawrence Baptist Church, Windsor, NC at 2 PM on Saturday, March 9 with the funeral following at 3 PM with the Pastor Scott Bauer and Charles Harden officiating.  Graveside services will follow the funeral at Edgewood Cemetery in Windsor, NC.

The youngest of 18, Mary grew up on the family farm in Creswell, NC, where her family grew corn, cotton, peanuts, and soybeans.  In December 1966, Mary welcomed her sweet baby girl, Patricia Ann (her Pat), who she adored and loved dearly.  In 1973, Mary met the love of her life, Billy Sallenger and was blessed with the addition of two little girls who she welcomed with open arms and a full heart.  Mary and Billy married on September 22, 1974, and enjoyed a wonderful life together in Windsor, NC for 41 years.  Mary was a devoted member of Lawrence Baptist Church for 50 years where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and was a member of the WMU.   Mary loved her church and her church family and was a devoted servant of God.

Mary worked full time at Bill Clough Ford for over 40 years.  After semi-retiring, Mary continued working at the dealership until the she went into the hospital.  Mary loved her work family so much, asking her daughters to please tell them how much she loved them.  Mary loved being outside. She spent many days working in her yard and always had beautiful flowers.  She was an amazing cook. Sitting at her table for a meal filled up your body and heart.

Mary is survived by her daughters, Pat Sallenger Cunningham (Mark) of Wilson, NC, and Joy Sallenger Skinner, of Wilmington, NC and her three granddaughters (her angels), Alexis (Alex) Foster Cunningham of Denver, Colorado, Mary Gray Cunningham of Charlotte, NC and Kailan Dru Skinner, of Wilmington, NC.

She also leaves her beloved six siblings, Helen T. Street, Delma T. Clough of Windsor, Wilma T. Spencer of Creswell, Martha T. Phelps and Joyce T. Ferrell of Newport, NC, and Ben Frank Twiddy of Creswell, NC.
