Mary Ellen Harris Burgess Taylor, 82, of Burgess Road Aulander,  passed away Tuesday May 7, 2024, after a long term illness. She was born in Bertie County on March 10, 1942, to the late Ishmel and Daisy White Harris. Mary Ellen enjoyed working in the cafeteria and was a Bertie County School Bus Driver for over 30 Years.  She loved her family, crocheting and working outside in her flower garden.

She is survived by her husband, Willie Owen Taylor of the home; daughters, Katie Burgess of Aulander; Tina Hodgson and husband Michael of Manteo; Susan Hoggard and husband Steve of Ahoskie; grandchildren, Stephen Hoggard and wife Chelsea, Shelby Hoggard, Sara Ganus and husband TJ, Liz Heuneman and husband Tyler, Owen Hodgson, and Samantha Hodgson; great grandchildren, TJ Heuneman, Chloe Ganus, Trey Ganus, and Jett Ganus.

Funeral services will be held Friday May 10, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Oak Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Greg Hurdle officiating. The family invites you to join them graveside at the Hoggard Memorial Cemetery in Lewiston immediately following the service. The family will receive friends Thursday, May 9th at Walker Funeral Home from 6:00 - 7:30 PM.
