Obituary

Dateline: Roper, NC

On Mother's Day, May 10th, 2026, heaven gained the most beautiful soul as Martha Sue Taylor White went home to be with her Lord.  In a touching divine reunion, she passed away on the birthday of her husband, Tom. He was the love of her life, whom she was married to for sixty-nine wonderful years. Their story began with a blind date.  After that a lifelong love story began that grew stronger with time. Together they built a beautiful life rooted in Christ, filled with love, faith, camping trips, fishing, gardening, laughter and an unwavering devotion to one another and their family.  Martha Sue loved God above all else and was a Christ driven, faithful woman.   Being a wife, mother, and grandmother were her greatest joys.  She poured endless love, kindness, prayer and strength into everyone around her.

Martha Sue was born in Bertie County on June 26, 1933, to Norman Frank Taylor and Mattie Elizabeth Hughes Taylor. She was a 1951 graduate of Colerain high school. She retired in 1982 after working many years for Dr. C.B. Robertson in Jackson, NC.  Ms. Martha Sue was a member of Capehart's Baptist Church, a Sunday school teacher and a member of the Rotary Club. She was predeceased in death by her parents; her husband, Verlon Dexter "Tom" White; sister, Carolyn Taylor Copeland; brothers, Iry Thelba Taylor, Willie B. Taylor, Teneal Taylor and Fleetwood Taylor.

She is survived by her daughters, Deborah Duncan and spouse, Herman of Seaboard and Lori Thomas and spouse, Mike of Rocky Mount; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside celebration of her life will be held at the Capehart's Baptist Church Cemetery, on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at 3:00 PM, with Pastor Ben Bunch officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 2:50 PM in the church. The following will serve as pallbearers: Neal Taylor, Sid Copeland, Jr., Kirk Copeland, Jarrett Britt, Jay Duncan, Taylor Thomas. Honorary pallbearers are Chris Taylor, Iry Taylor, and Donnie Taylor. Special music will be provided by Lynn Copeland.
