Martha Lee Bazemore Early, age 87, died Saturday, June 6, 2026, at ECU Health Bertie Hospital with her loving family by her side.  Martha was born on September 17, 1938, to the late Martha Bazemore in Bertie County. In addition to her mother, she is preceded in death by her husband, David Charles Early and her brother, Sidney Bazemore.

Ms. Martha ran a day care for many years and loved being with children. She also worked at Powell and Stokes making the many different varieties of peanuts you see on their shelves. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend and had a great sense of humor. You could often find her in her yard working in her flowers, picking up sticks, or trimming the shrubs.  Martha was an excellent seamstress, quilter and enjoyed putting puzzles together.

Survivors include her daughters: Martha Ellen Alston (Greg Mulder) and Marie White (Charles); son, David Early (Carol) all of Windsor: grandchildren, Lane Alston and Courtney Early; and sisters: Penny White and Lillie Mae White both of Askewville.

A graveside service will be Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at 11:00 AM in Edgewood Cemetery with Jamie Alexander Harmon conducting the service. The family will receive friends at Ms. Martha's home on Sterlingworth Street.
