Date line: Askewville

Marla Jernigan Baker of Askewville passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at ECU Medical Center in Washington. Marla was born on September 10, 1962 to the late Robert "Bobby" and Mary Lou Jernigan. She was a Registered Nurse and worked at Albemarle Home Care in Windsor for 28 years. Marla is predeceased by her parents and her sister Dawn Jernigan.

Marla is survived by her husband, Michael B Baker of the home, son, Gabriel M Baker of Windsor and sister, Alison Allen of Norfolk.

She enjoyed gardening, yard work, teaching Sunday school, being a part of the choir and decorating the Hope House at Christmas. She was a church member at Askewville Baptist Church. Marla was a loving wife, mother and daughter. She was also an animal lover, especially for cats and she was also a devoted friend and mom to many.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Memorial gifts may be made to Askewville Baptist Church and the Askewville Fire Department.
