Linda Byrum Smithwick, 75, of Winwood Drive, died Friday September 14, 2018 at Vidant Bertie Hospital. She was born in Bertie County, June 3, 1943 to the late Ruby Byrum Miller and Levi Vinston Byrum. Linda was predeceased by a sister, Carolyn Byrum Bond; brothers, Robert Sherlock, Franklin "Bud" and Nelson Ray Byrum.  She was a member of Askewville Baptist Church and a retired lab technician with Bertie Memorial Hospital.  Linda was an artist and lover of antiques.  She was a history buff, especially local history and the civil war. She loved her family and enjoyed learning about her ancestors.  After her retirement she was a devoted homemaker.

A graveside funeral service will be held Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Edgewood Cemetery. Rev. Joseph Cooper will officiate.

Survivors include her husband William Jordan "Billy" Smithwick of the home; daughter, Carolyn Michelle Abraham Castelloe and husband Michael of Bedford, VA; son Stacy Lewis Castelloe of Kinston, NC; grandchildren, Alexandra Rivera and Sebastian Abraham.

The family will receive friends following the graveside service and from the home at other times. Memorial gifts may be made to St. Thomas Episcopal Church Building Fund, 302 South Queen Street, Windsor, NC 27983 or to the Caswell Center Foundation, PO Box 1459, Kinston, NC 28503.
