Katherine Bell Sawyer Ward, a resident of the Vintage Inn in Williamston and formerly of Windsor, died Saturday October 3, 2020.  She was born in Windsor November 23, 1939 to the late Charles Judson and Cecelia Bell Sawyer and was predeceased by her husband Lester Murray Ward whom she married November 17, 1962.  Katherine was a life-long  member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church where she was a member of the Altar Guild, the Choir and search committee. She was also a member of the Colonial Dames.  Katherine was a graduate of St. Mary's College, UNC Chapel Hill and received her teaching degree from (ECTC) East Carolina University.  She taught at Northwoods Collegiate School and 17 years with Lawrence Academy.

A private graveside funeral service will be held.

Survivors include her daughters, Mary Charles Ward Pace and husband Jason of Nashville, Elizabeth "Betsy" Ward Price and husband, Ed of Williamston; brother, Dr. Charles Judson Sawyer, III of Ahoskie; grandchildren, Katie Pawlikowski, Hunter Pawlikowski and Lofton Holloman; nieces and nephews, Jud Sawyer, Kathy Mann and Jay Ward.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gift may be made to St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 302 South Queen Street, Windsor, NC 27983.
