Juanita Liverman Surgeon went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, February 2, 2024 at the East Carolina Heart Institute at ECU Health Medical Center.

"Nita" was born to the late Ernest Celvin Liverman, Sr. and Ila Mae Minton Liverman at the family home in Union on June 3, 1949.

In her early years she started working at Carolina Telephone and later began a career with Blue Bell (Wrangler), eventually retiring in 2002 to be able to babysit her first grandchild.

Nita enjoyed making crafts and sewing. She made items for the nursery of both grandsons including curtains, blankets, sheets, and bumper pads all decked out in Pooh Bear and John Deere tractors. Also, Nita took great joy in making stuffed animals for Operation Christmas Child Shoe Boxes and will be remembered for a heart of loving kindness.

Raised in the fellowship of Union Baptist Church, Nita was a member of Ross Baptist Church and the Sue Todd Sunday School Class.

Nita is preceded in death by her son, Lewis Scott Surgeon; her husband, Lewis Bernard Surgeon, Jr., and her brother, Ernest Celvin Liverman, Jr.

She is survived by her son, Christopher Brian Surgeon, and wife Melissa; two grandsons whom she absolutely adored, Christopher Scott Surgeon and fiancée, Brooke Hoggard and Jacob Lewis Surgeon; sister, Cindy and husband Tommy Morris; many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, February 4, 2024 from 4:00 to 5:30 at Walker Funeral Home of Windsor.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 5, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Ross Baptist Church and will be conducted by Rev. Randy Miller. Burial will follow at Ross Baptist Church Cemetery.
