Robersonville, NC - Joyce Everett James died on December 18, 2023.
Joyce Everett James was reunited with her loved ones in Heaven at the age of 92. Joyce was born April 3, 1931, to William Benjamin Everett and Helen Naomi Everett on the family farm outside of Robersonville, NC where she lived until her death.
Her services will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024. A visitation and reception will be held in the Bethel Methodist Church (Bethel, NC) fellowship hall from 12:30 – 2:00pm with a Celebration of Life service in the sanctuary at 2:00pm. A private burial will be held for the family immediately following the service. Reverend Ralph Brown will officiate the services.
Joyce is survived by three of her daughters, Susan James Manning, and husband Ken of Bethel; Joy James Riddick and husband Steve of Greenville; Linda Everett James of Robersonville; and son-in-law Ken Perry of Bethel. Her grandchildren Ben Manning and wife Jessica of Greenville; Laura Manning Flesher of Washington; John Riddick and wife Ashlee of Youngsville; Anna Riddick of Greenville; Stuart and wife Mandy of Bethel and Christopher Perry of Raleigh. Her great-grandchildren Mackenzie Flesher, Diana and Bryson Manning, and Ellis and Owen Riddick.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Helen; her husband of thirty-one years, Benjamin William (Bill) James; and her daughter Mabel James Perry; her sisters and their husbands Carrie Elizabeth Manning (James) and Hilda Everett Mitchell (Jake).
After her high school graduation, Joyce began her career at Guaranty Bank (Wachovia) in Robersonville. She and Bill began their life together on September 4, 1949. Joyce worked while Bill completed his college degree in education at East Carolina College. She would go on to support her four girls through their college educations. Susan, Mabel, and Linda earned their teaching degrees from East Carolina University, while Joy earned hers at North Carolina State University.
Joyce completed her career with twenty-one years of service with the Burroughs Wellcome Company in Greenville. After retirement, Joyce enjoyed traveling with her children and her sisters. She often traveled with Linda to other states in the US while Linda was teaching science workshops. She traveled to Europe with her sister-in-law, Betty (James) Beck as well as trips throughout North Carolina and Virginia with her lifelong friend, Hazel Phelps. In the last five years, Joyce enjoyed visiting her cousin, Anita Powell, and friends Liz Green and Dot Williford at Atlantic Beach. Joyce truly lived her life to the fullest.
