Joy Byrd White, 87, died Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at her daughter's home in Manteo. She was born in Bertie County January 1, 1933  to the late Roy and Augusta Mills Byrd and was predeceased by her sisters, Louise Mills Godwin and Kay Byrd Binch and  brother, Winston Byrd.  Joy was a member of Askewville Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school, and was the president of Vacation Bible School for many years.  She was a florist by trade; loved to garden and was a very good seamstress.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 12, 2020 at 2:00 PM at the Askewville Baptist Church. Rev. Zach Hicks will officiate.  Burial will follow in Edgewood Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Jesse Tyler; daughter, Carolyn Savage and husband Chuck of Manteo; son, David White and wife Joanne of Eure; brother, Harry Byrd of St. Petersburg, FL; grandchildren, Justin and Hunter Savage, Kristen White, Alissa White and Amy Phippins; great grandchildren, Brooke and Claire Phippins.

The family will receive friends Saturday, January 11 ^th from 6-7:30 PM at Walker Funeral Home.  Memorial gifts may be made to Dare County Health and Hospice, 109 Exeter Street, PO Box 669, Manteo NC 27954.
