Dateline: Edenton, NC

Joy Hoggard Brickhouse, age 64, died Thursday, August 20, 2026, at ECU Medical Center in Greenville.  She was born in Wake County on November 26, 1961, to the late Robert Ray Hoggard and Dorthy Jane Crisp Hoggard.  She was also predeceased in death by her sister, Rhoda Hoggard Taylor and brother, Timmy Hoggard; and stepfather, Lloyd "Red" Early.

Joy was a retired teacher from the Chowan County school system and had received the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Certification. (The highest and most respected professional credentials for teachers K-12.)  She was a wonderful aunt but was lovingly known as "Uncle Joy".  Before her illness she attended Open Door Church in Edenton, she enjoyed listening to podcasts, but her true love was reading.

Joy is survived by her brothers, Randy Hoggard of Winterville and Robert Ray Hoggard, Jr. of AR; brother-in-law, Jimmy Taylor of Williamston; niece, Tracey Dysart (Fred); nephew, Joseph Hoggard (Christi) and many wonderful friends.

A celebration of her life will be held at Walker Funeral Home Chapel in Windsor with Pastor Allen Harmon officiating on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 11:00 AM.  The family will receive friends following the service.
