Johnnie "Whit" Mizelle of Charles Taylor Road, Aulander died unexpectedly on Saturday, June 21, 2025, on his family farm. Whit was born on February 11, 1955 in Windsor to Joe and Garnet Peede Mizelle who have preceded him in death.
Whit was most at home and at peace when he was outdoors. He devoted his life to farming, and when he wasn't farming, he was most likely hunting or fishing. Whit was a long-time member of Obie Taylor Hunting Club and enjoyed sharing daily meals with his friends at Leggett's Grill.
Whit is survived by his wife, Lisa Jernigan Mizelle, his son, Lewis Mizelle of Aulander; grandson, Ayden Mizelle of Aulander; brother, Allen Mizelle (Renee) of Ahoskie; and sister, Linda Cooke (Vernon) of Whaleyville, Virgina.
The Mizelle family will receive friends at Walker Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 24, 2025 from 6-8 PM and other times at the home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Walker Funeral Home, Chapel with Pastor Buddy Denton officiating. Burial will follow at Edgewood Cemetery. Preston Mizelle, Daniel Mizelle, David Mizelle, Josh Leggett, Skip Dunlow, Tim Askew, and Ronald Cullipher will be serving as pallbearers.
Memorial contributions may be directed to that Askewville Volunteer Fire Department.
