Mrs. Joan Copeland Leggett went home to be with our Almighty Lord on Monday, February 20, 2023. She was born in Williamston, NC on May 10, 1944 to the late Kesler William and Rena Wheeler Copeland.

Joan was predeceased by her parents, a brother- Gene Copeland and her loving husband of 52 years Shelton Andrew Leggett, Sr.

Surviving is her devoted son Drew and his wife Jennifer and very precious grandchildren, Jackson and Whitley of Lake Royale, Louisburg; brother, James Copeland of roanoke Rapids, NC.

Joan moved her membership from Memorial Baptist Church in Williamston to Cashie Baptist Church on November 17, 1968 and became the first hired financial secretary at Cashie- setting up the first bookkeeping system and it was utilized until the big flood in 1999 when afterwards everything was computerized. She served in many leadership roles in the church but the one she enjoyed most was church clerk for 20 years.

Joan dedicated her life teaching and sharing her talents with others- crocheting, ceramics, sewing, quilting, her favorite – smock and designing clothes for children. Hands always stayed busy – she grew up helping to care for five grand parents and in later years she and Shelton cared for their parents together, but she was most satisfied being Shelton's caretaker for six years; with wonderful ladies and friends to help and a devoted family to make each day.

Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, February 24, 2023 at Walker Funeral Home Chapel in Windsor. Rev. Stafford Beasley will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Edgewood Cemetery.
