Mr. Jesse Edward (J.E.) Corey Jr. passed away on Monday, August 12, 2024, at the Williamston House assisted living facility.
A celebration of J.E.'s life will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at the Walker Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Chris Minton officiating. Burial will follow at the Corey family plot in Woodlawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at Walker Funeral Home, from 6:00 PM till 8:00 PM, and other times at the home on McCaskey Rd.
J.E. was born November 6,1944 to the late J. Edward Corey Sr. and Elsie Marie Hardison Corey in Martin County. As a young man, J.E. enjoyed playing softball and tennis. He loved spending time at "Yucca Heights", his family's cottage at Pamlico Beach, where he enjoyed fishing and boating. He had a lifelong fascination with trains and would rush to the nearest track if he heard the sound of the train whistle.
J.E. worked for Martin Supply Company for many years before his health declined. He was a fixture working behind the counter, driving the fertilizer trucks, or cracking pecans. In his free time, J.E. enjoyed watching sports of any kind. He could also be found attending his grandchildren's extracurricular activities, including band concerts, track meets and tennis matches.
J.E. was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Elsie, a twin sister (unnamed), and his eldest sister, Louise Corey Rogerson.
Surviving are his children, Jesse Edward (Ed) Corey III and Jean Marie Corey Brownfield (Daniel). J.E.is also survived by his two grandsons, Caleb Daniel Brownfield (Caitlyn) and Andrew Dawson Brownfield who were his absolute pride and joy.
He is survived by his sisters, Jesse Marie Jones and Edna Gray Thomas.
J.E.'s children would like to thank the staff of Williamston House and Gentiva Hospice for the care they provided.
