Janice J. Jernigan, 83, of Elm Grove Road, passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at her home. She was born in Bertie County, December 4, 1939, to the late Gurney P. and Magnolia White Jernigan and was predeceased by her husband, Alton O. "Monk" Jernigan, son, Randy Lane Jernigan, and brother, Gurney Everett Jernigan. She was a member of Elm Grove Baptist Church.  Janice loved her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and her extended family. She worked as a seamstress with several manufacturers. Janice loved to grow her garden, flowers and to cook. She retired as a chicken farmer.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 17, 2023, at 1:00 PM at Elm Grove Baptist Church. Rev. Preston Jernigan will officiate. A burial will follow in Edgewood Cemetery, Windsor. The family will receive friends following the service and from the home at other times.

Survivors include her son, Lyndon Jernigan and his wife, Beth from Windsor; sister, Marie Mizelle and husband Larry of Colerain; grandchild, Dustin Jernigan and wife, Margaret; great grandchildren, Madison and Elliott Jernigan; sisters-in-law, Gail Jernigan, Rosie Jernigan of Colerain, and Anna Jernigan of Windsor.

The Jernigan family would like to say, thank you to Elm Grove Baptist Church, the community and her family and friends for the support through the years.
