James Walter "J.W." Johnson, 65, passed away December 15, 2023.

He was born on November 25, 1958 in Ahoskie, NC the son of the late Cecil Johnson and Shirley Smithwick Perry.

In his earlier years, James "J.W." was self-employed as a carpenter. He enjoyed reading, drawing, watching movies, listening to music, and cooking for family and friends. He had a love for flowers and was known to give flowers to his mama often to show his love for her.

James "J.W.' is survived by his son, James Walter Johnson, Jr.; grandson, Peyton James Johnson; sisters, Sharon Joyner of Powellsville, Monica Keel of Ahoskie, and Carla Emminizer (Rob) of Perrytown; nieces, Shannon Dunlow (Bobby),  Amanda Hobbs (Dane), Rebecca Joyner, Kellie Keel (Corey); nephews, Edward Joyner and Walter Emminizer; 4 great nieces and 7 great nephews; uncle, Kenneth Smithwick (Brenda) of Louisburg, and extended family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice or ASPCA.
