James (Jim) Thomas Humphrey of Rocky Mount, NC and formerly of Windor, NC, died Saturday, May 23, 2026. Jim was born on March 30th, 1944, in Suffolk, Virginia to the late James Thomas Humphrey Senior and Mary Pegram Wilson Humphrey Worthington.

He is proceeded in death by his parents, as well as his brothers, S.W. Worthington the III and William Pegram Wilson Humphrey.

Jim was known for his outgoing and generous spirit. He was a quiet giver, who loved to tell a good story and share kindness with everyone he met.

After graduating from Atlantic Christian College, he served in the Airforce from 1968-1972. Following his military service, he had a long and successful career in sales within the Telecommunications industry across companies such as: Ericsson, AT&T and Lucent Technologies. His gift of connecting with people resulted in many of his customers being converted into long-time friendships. Jim was civic-minded and served on a range of different boards during his career.

He could always bring humor to any situation and is recognized by many for his big smile, a symbol of his joy in and openness to connect with people.  In his spare time, he loved to fish, golf, and play cards, enjoying these past-times together with friends. He hosted a men's bridge club for many years, which brought together his friends and one of his favorite interests.

He also very much loved his family and was tender-hearted when it came to animals.

He is survived by his loving partner of many years, Lynda Warner, his daughter Jennifer Humphrey, siblings - Mary George Worthington Sullivan, and Margaret Rascoe Worthington, and multiple nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will be held Thursday, May 28th at 2.00 p.m.at St. Thomas Episcopal Church by Rev. Samson Mamour. Please join the family for a reception in the parish hall following the service. Memorial gifts may be made to the local SPCA or to the St. Thomas Episocopla Church at 302 South Queen Street, Windsor, NC 27983.
