Obituary

Dateline: Windsor, NC

James L. Cooke, known to all as Jimmy, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 15, 2026, after a long battle with Parkinson's.

Jimmy was born in Bertie County on December 19, 1952.  He was the son of Richard and Anne Cooke, and resided the majority of his life in Windsor, NC.  He graduated Bertie High School in 1973 and had a long, fulfilling career as a truck driver and mechanic, until his retirement in 2020.  Jimmy married Connie Meeks in 1981, and they shared 45 years together on the wild, wondrous road of life.

Jimmy was a life-long member of Cashie Baptist Church.  He was a thrill seeker 'til the end--riding motorcycles, horses, roller coasters, even water skiing barefoot.  He enjoyed boating on local rivers, beach trips, competitive putt-putt tournaments, and sharing time with family and friends.  Jimmy found great joy in eating "out on the town", and truly appreciated the amazing staff at his favorite local spots.  He always managed to save room for his beloved chocolate milkshakes!

Jimmy is survived by his wife: Connie Cooke, daughter, Krista Ayers (Michael) of Washington, son, James R. Cooke (Corrye) of Windsor, and sisters: Cathy Dennis and Debbie Stokes of Alabama.  Other Family: Nicholas (Sydnee), Jacob (Zoe), James Thomas, Raygan (Half Pint), and sweet "Prissy".  He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Bonnie Perry, Sharon Roy, Tina Keener, and brother John Hanson.

Visitation will be held at Walker Funeral Home in Windsor, NC on: Friday, June 19, 2026 from 6-8pm.  Funeral Services will be held at Cashie Baptist Church on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at 2pm.  Committal will follow at Edgewood Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cashie Baptist Church or Cashie Baptist Men's Group.
