James Clarence Hopkins (Jimmy) died peacefully at his home on Kader Lilley Road on Saturday, June 22 at 4:00 a.m. The son of William Clarence Hopkins and Barbara Irene Gardner Hopkins, he was born June 23, 1938, in Williams Township, Williamston, NC.
He was predeceased in death by his parents, his second wife, Barbara Jean Curtis and a brother, Jerry M. Hopkins. He was also predeceased by two Special Angels, Josh Warren and Les-Leigh Hopkins.
He is survived by his four children: sons James (Jay) Clarence Hopkins, Jr. and Anthony (Mike) Michael Hopkins and daughters Karen (Eileen) Hopkins Warren and Sharon Hopkins Stevens (Kenneth), all of Williamston, NC.
Grandchildren left to honor his memory are Aime Lynn Fountain (Reggie), Alexis Warren Jones (Carrington), Cameron Oakley Stevens, and Whitney Sloan Stevens. Great grandchildren include Richard Shavender, Summer Shavender, Courtney Forehand, Kyndal Fountain, Charley Faye Jones and Reid Carrington Jones.
Siblings Barbara Peaks (Spooky), Mitchel Hopkins, Mamie Hoffer, Maverene Manning (Wayne), Annie Faye Whitehurst all survive.
Jimmy attended Asa J. Manning School (Farmlife) and later Williamston High School. He was a member of the Fairview Christian Church and spent most of his life in William's township where he was born.
He was introduced to the agriculture industry as a young child and continued to be involved during his adult life. His career as a tobacco buyer took him to Africa, Thailand and the Philippines. He enjoyed his time traveling but most of all he enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren whether they were playing sports or just sitting around listening to his tales.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, June 25,2024 at the Hopkins Family Cemetery, Kader Lilley Rd. Williamston.
The Family will receive friends on Monday evening June, 24, 2024 from 6:00 PM till 7:30 PM at Walker Funeral Home, Williamston, and other times at the home of his daughter Eileen Hopkins Warren, on Fire Department Rd. Williamston.
