Jack Arthur Williford of Windsor died Wednesday, June 26, 2024. A native of Windsor, NC, Jack was born October 30, 1942. The baby child of eleven to John Braxton Williford and Lessie Castellow Williford. Jack attended Windsor High through 12th grade. He consistently added more education every chance being an avid on-going learner. He was a car salesman and gas truckdriver for years while pursing more education. He attended the University of North Carolina School of Government and while attending he received one of the most prestigious awards given – The NCAAO award. Jack worked from 1967 to 2000 as the Bertie County Tax Administrator, after retiring he served as Intern tax administrator in Roberson, and Martin County and was the President of the NC Association of Assessing Officers and NC Tax Collectors Association. Jack was the Bertie County Manager from 1995 to 2000, he was part of the Bertie County Rescue, the NC Baptist Foundation, and the Windsor Little League. Mr. Williford received several awards, the Distinguished Service Award from the Windsor Jaycees, Tax Supervisor of the year and Outstanding Tax Collector. Jack loved Bertie County, he served as President of the Rotary Club, he was on many national, state and county boards and committees, as well as church boards and committees.
On August 28, 1960, Jack married Edith White also from Bertie County and had two children, Angela and Jackie. Family was everything to Jack and he instilled this into each family member. Nothing meant more to him than spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He got special pleasure in watching and coaching them performing and competing in sports. He had the highest understanding of what was important…God, Faith, and Family. He was known for having a smile on his face and offering a kind word.
In addition to his parents, Jack was predeceased by his six brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his wife Edith White Williford, daughters; Angela Willford Mizelle (Harold) and Jackie Williford Copeland (Hunter); grandchildren; Grantley Heath Mizelle (Liz), Ashtyn Mizelle Kim (Seongsu); great grandchildren; Ella and Gabby Mizelle, Arthur Jackson Kim; sister; Mae Adams and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and hundreds of best friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cashie Baptist Church, Windsor, Music or Children's-Youth Departments or a charity of your choice.
A visitation will be held Sunday, June 30, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at Walker Funeral Home in Windsor. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Monday, July 1, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Cashie Baptist Church followed by a reception.
