Hoke Smith Roberson 100, of 107 West Watson Street died peacefully at his home Friday, October 5, 2018.

Growing up on a small farm, he was born in Robersonville, NC to Joseph Lawrence and Callie Brown Roberson. He was a loving and dedicated husband to his wife Eleanor Shelton Roberson for 63 years. He was her primary caregiver as she battled Alzheimer's disease until her death in 2002. Also preceding him in death were four sisters and one brother, and his son Hoke Smith Roberson, Jr.

Surviving is his son: Joseph Shelton Roberson (Kay) of Windsor, daughter: Deborah Roberson Christopher (Bobby) of Beaufort, NC. Also surviving are seven grandchildren:Hoke Smith Roberson, III. (Cathy) of Wilmington, NC. Gifford Blake Roberson (Jennifer) of Raleigh, NC. Robert Scott Christopher (Kelly) of Decatur, GA. Anna Christopher Danner (Justin) of Milton, GA. Christi Roberson Coiner (Jack) of Waynesboro, VA. Joseph Shelton Roberson, JR. (Ally) of Charlotte, NC. Carrie Roberson Fasola (Josh) of Raleigh, NC and his loving twelve great grandchildren.

Hoke attended Wake Forest College and graduated in 1937 from Smithdeal Massey Business College in Richmond, VA.
Spending his entire life working in the auto business, Hoke owned and operated R&W Chevrolet for more than 50 years. Through this business many lifelong friendships were developed. He was active in his church and community, Hoke was a member of Windsor United Methodist Church, where he held several positions. A lifetime Rotarian and President of the Windsor Club for a number of years, Hoke was the recipient of the Paul Harris fellowship. He also was a lifelong member of Masonic Lodge #296 and served on the Southern Bank Board in Windsor.

A spiritual and kind-hearted man, Hoke loved his family and was extremely proud of each and every one, as was evident when he often shared family news with others. Known for his "gift of gab", Hoke made friends easily and was quick to learn of other's lives. In his later years, he could be seen driving his big, blue station wagon through the neighborhood, stopping often to chat or offer a little advice or wisdom.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, October 8, 2018 at Windsor United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held at noon at the church. Private family burial will follow the service.

Hoke's family is grateful to the wonderful care he received at home through his compassionate, loving caregivers.
