Mr. Herbert Askew 86, a resident of Pine Ridge Rd. Windsor, passed away Saturday, November 8, 2025 at his residence after a long illness.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening November 12, 2025 from 6:00 PM till 7:30 PM at Walker Funeral Home, and other times at the home.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, November 13, 2025 at Ross Baptist Church with pastor Josh Morris officiating and music provided by Richard Simmons. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Steve Askew, Brian Askew, Connor Askew, Jarrett Hoggard, Danny Belch, and Walt Perry, will serve as pallbearers. Sawyer Askew will serve as honorary pallbearer.

Mr. Herbert was born on May 21, 1939 to Joseph and Pearl Lena  Askew. He attended Bertie County Schools and later served in the North Carolina National Guard. Mr. Herbert retired from Bertie County Schools working in the garage. He was also a farmer and an active member of Ross Baptist Church. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

On August 24, 1962 Mr. Herbert married the former Peggy Belch who survives. Also surviving to cherish his memory are two sons: Brenton Dale Askew and wife Lesley, and Dr. Kim Askew and wife Leigh; Grandchildren: Carson Askew, Caitlyn Askew, Natalie Askew, Paige Askew, Connor Askew, and Sawyer Askew; other survivors include: four sisters, Ruth Whitaker, Velma Hughes, Merilyn Evans, and Linda Askew.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Herbert was preceded in death by one infant sister, Josephine Askew, and two brothers: Signal Askew, and Harlin Askew.
