Helen Castello Jernigan, 100, a resident of Three Rivers Nursing Home and formerly of 601 Elm Grove Road, passed away Monday, January 16, 2023.  She was born in Bertie County April 13, 1922 to the late Redden and Annie Hoggard Castello and predeceased by her husband, William Carlos Jernigan; three infant children; brothers, Woodrow and Gene Castello.  Helen was the oldest living member of Elm Grove Baptist Church where she was a trustee, treasurer, and Sunday school teacher. She and her husband ran Elm Grove Country Store and farmed.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 19,2023 at 2:00 PM at Elm Grove Baptist Church. Rev. Preston Jernigan will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens, Ahoskie.

She is survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
