Hazel Christine Whitfield, 90 of NC Hwy 11 North, died Thursday, December 1, 2022, at ECU Edgecombe Hospital, after a long courageous battle with Alzheimer's.

Hazel was born on April 26, 1932, in Pitt County to the late James A. and Nancy Dora Whitfield Davenport. She was a homemaker and member of the Bethel Pentecostal Holiness Church. She loved her family. Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie J. Whitfield, Jr., daughter, Nancy Briley and grandson, Charlie Hannah.

Survivors include her sons, James Briley (Betsy) of Greenville, Jesse L. Briley of Bethel, Jerry W. Briley of Bethel, William "Clayton" Briley (Susan) of Bethel, Russell Briley (Lisa) of Bethel; daughters, Janie R. Powell (Darwin) of Greenville, Hattie "Ophelia" C. Scott (Glen) of Robersonville, Pauline Casper of Greenville; stepdaughters, three; stepsons, two; multiple grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; one special granddaughter, Christy J. Cannon of the home, which was her caregiver for the past three years.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Heritage FWB Church in Bethel with Rev. Walter Summerlin officiating. Private burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at the church and other times from the home of Ophelia and Glen Scott, 1984 Winslow Rd. Robersonville, NC 27821.
