Grover Leo Barber, 89 of Holly Springs Church Rd., died Sunday, April 9, 2023, at ECU Health Beaufort Hospital.

Grover was born on March 26, 1934, in Martin County to the late Dennis and Essie Perry Barber. He retired from Weyerhaeuser, having worked there for 44 years as a carpenter. Grover was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church and a US Air Force veteran. He was a member of the Am Vets and loved fishing, cooking, and playing poker. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Bullock Barber, son, Greg Barber, brothers, Louis, Carroll, Hurbert and Garland Barber, sister, Ruth Jones.

Survivors include; daughters, Elaine Jones (Carl) of Columbia, Jackie Thomas (David) of Manteo and Johna Gurganus (Ken) of Williamston; brother, Rev. Paul Barber (Sue) of Sherrills Ford; grandchildren, Andy Jones (Brooke), Megan McLaughlin (Scott), Clark Gurganus (Miranda), Hayli Cowan (Taylor), Jacquelyn Thomas, Landon Gurganus; great grandchildren, Dawson Jones, Crewe Jones, Allie Grace McLaughlin, Lanie Jones, Graham McLaughlin, and Blaire Cowan.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Fellowship Baptist Church with Rev. Phillip Boseman and Rev. Paul Barber officiating. Burial will follow with military honors in Martin Memorial Garden.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening at Walker Funeral Home from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM and other times at 1350 Holly Springs Church Rd.
