Gilbert R. Thomas, 67, of Old US 17 North, died Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. He was born in Bertie County February 4, 1953 to the late Joseph Edward Thomas, Sr. and Abbie Lawrence Thomas. He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Edward Thomas, Jr.  Gilbert was a professional truck driver until his retirement in 2004.  He was a member of United Outreach Ministries and active in the men's group.  He loved his family, loved to take cruises and enjoyed cooking and catering for family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday March 20, 2020 at 10:30 AM at United Outreach Ministries, 103 Pritchard Road.  Rev. J. R. Thomas will officiate.  Burial will follow in the Lawrence Family Cemetery, Old US 17 North, Windsor.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Ann Harris Thomas of the home; daughter, Michelle Thomas Meldick of Windsor; son, Shelton Thomas and wife Charissa of Edenton; sisters, Wilma Thomas of Windsor and Louise White of TX; grandchildren, Chelsea Pridgen (James), Miranda Meldick and James Andrews; great-grandchild, Rosalind Andrews.

The family will receive friends Thursday, March 19 ^th from 5-6:30 PM at Walker Funeral Home and from the home at other times.  Memorial gifts may be made to United Outreach Ministries, 103 Pritchard Road, Windsor, NC 27983.
