Gilbert Russell Leggett, 79, of US 13/17 South, died Wednesday October 2, 2019 at Vidant Bertie Memorial Hospital.  He was born in Bertie County July 14, 1940 to the late Arthur Lloyd and Pauline Speller Leggett and predeceased by a son, Bobby Leggett; sisters, Frances Hoggard, Christine Wynne and Helen Watson.  Gilbert, a farmer,  was a member of Cashie Baptist Church and served in the National Guard.

Funeral services will be held Monday October 7, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Cashie Baptist Church.  Rev. J. N. Baggett and Rev. Roger Leggett will officiate.  Burial will follow in the Speller Family Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis White Leggett of the home; sons, Mark Leggett and wife Jackie, Shane Leggett and wife Taylor; daughter Lynn Keel and husband Cricket; stepdaughter, Renee' Roberson and husband Mickey all of Windsor; step son, Dalton Conner of Lumberton; sisters, Shirley L. Nash of Merry Hill and Rachel Mobley of GA; 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Sunday October 6 ^th from 4-6 PM at Walker Funeral Home and from the home at other times.
