Evy Rawls Hughes, 87 of Perrytown Road, Colerain, died Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at ECU Chowan Hospital.

Ms. Evy was born in Bertie County on September 27, 1936 to the late Arthur Rawls and Sophie Mizelle Rawls. After her formal education, she married the love of her life, George Astor Hughes on August 6, 1966. She was homemaker and a member of Perrytown Assembly of God where she taught Children's church for many years and later retired from Cooper Insurance Agency which now is Phelps Insurance Group of Windsor, NC.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Astor Hughes; sisters, Sophie Irene Jenkins, Millie "Jane" Cullipher, Betty Blanche Lyon, and Shirley Grace Meeker; brothers, Willie Ralph Rawls and Robert Harold Rawls.

Survivors include one daughter, Tempie Hughes Simons of Wilmington; two granddaughters, Megan S. Price (Jonathan), and Lindsey Simons; and two great-grandchildren, Aspen Price and Elijah Price.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, October 7, 2023 at Perrytown Assembly of God, with Pastor David Baker officiating and Pastor McCray Dove along with Pastor Ralph Rawls assisting. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery, Colerain.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
