Evelyn Raiford Britt Tarkington 99, passed away September 30, 2018. She was the sixth of eight children born to Hudson and Lizzie Raiford all who predeceased her.  She was also predeceased by husbands, Thomas Britt and Richard Tarkington.  She was a member of Windsor United Methodist Church.

Born and raised in Burdette, Virginia, she was a long time member of Burdette Baptist Church where she was a former Sunday school teacher, VBS Director, choir member and WMU Director.

Evelyn loved to make crafts of many different kinds. She would sell a few, but mostly gave them away because that was her way.  She had a very generous heart.

Song writing was also one of Evelyn's favorite things to do. She would send them away and get them put to music and share the tapes with friends and neighbors.

Left to cherish her memory are son Wayne Britt (Naomi) of Suffolk, VA, daughter, Jean Cobb (Warren) of Windsor, NC, and step- daughter Brenda Winslow (Ted) of Windsor; grandchildren, Rob Britt (Debbie), Greg Britt (Monica), Michael Cobb (Paula) and Michelle Jenkins (Brad); great-grandchildren, Tyler, Rachel, Kaitlyn, and Greyson. Other family members include five step-grandchildren, twelve step-great grandchildren and 4 step great-great-grandchildren.

Service will be held at the Walker Funeral Home Chapel in Windsor, October 2, 2018 at 2:00 PM. Her grandson Michael Cobb will officiate.  The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday October 3, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Black Creek Cemetery, 34163 Vicksville Road, Franklin, VA 23851.
